Project Abstract

I am proposing a program that will allow students to acquire a deeper knowledge of the subjects they are studying in school using technology based tools. The sessions would be held either in the media center or in the computer lab. Students would be able to use a variety of tools to develop the projects. The projects could be individual or collaborative.

In addition, resources should be made available to students both before and after school in the media center so that students without computers at home have the opportunity to complete their projects. Additional computing resources could be made available at the community library.

Students with receptive teachers could use the projects either as a means of meeting a class requirement or as a means of gaining extra credit in the classroom. Students who are having difficulty in a subject should be encouraged, but not required to come to the sessions.

Some of the projects that students would be able to participate in include developing podcasts, Wikis, web pages, multimedia projects and 3D models. The list is not inclusive, and students would be able to submit ideas of their own for completion of projects.

High school students could be after school mentors for middle school students. Could do either at WSHS or CGMS.
